Hi, I’m Ziggy! I’m a very affectionate, bouncy youngster. I’m a typical young Cocker up to mischief if I can get away with it. I am learning to behave in my foster home and have settled well in just a short time.
Energy Requirements: Ziggy is used to 2 good walks a day, plus playing with his toys. He loves long walks in the countryside. He can become distracted when off lead, especially if there are other dogs around but will come back for a treat.
Training: Ziggy’s new owners will need to continue his training. He pulls on the lead at first but is better after he’s had a good run. His recall is reported as good but he will need to be on a long line or in an enclosed area until you are confident of his recall. Ziggy loves food so this make training a lot easier. He has basic obedience, sit, stay, lie down, paw etc.
Visiting the vet: Ziggy has had his routine healthcheck and is fit and well. His next vaccinations are due in April 2025. Ziggy will be adopted with a contract to be neutered once he is settled in his new home.
Travelling: travels in the boot or on the back seat clipped in. He jumps in and out of the car with little prompting, when he first arrived in foster he would not go in the car and does not like being lifted.
Food: Ziggy eats Skinners Field and Trial Chicken or Lamb twice a day, plus treats. Also like socks, they can be dirty, clean or from the washing machine.
Sleep: He settles well and sleeps all night in his bed in the kitchen.
Behavioural issues: Ziggy is a sock thief but will give them up for a treat. He is getting better now at leaving things alone. When he is anxious he will guard his toys.
Home needs: Ziggy needs a calm but active home where his training can continue. He needs someone experienced with the breed, who can manage his thieving and resource guarding. He could live with another dog but would equally be happy on his own as long as he has someone around most of the time. He is currently in foster with two other dogs and is starting to play with them. He would be best in a home with no children.
Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog. Ziggy will be adopted with a contract to be neutered once he is settled in his new home.
Please do not express interest in Ziggy if you are going on holiday in the next 4-6 weeks.
