A little bit about Maisy – Maisy is a happy, bouncy playful young dog, she responds to her commands well, loves people and other dogs. She is learning to settle down in the house, but likes to be where her fosterer is,  or with her other dogs. When meeting people she will jump up but if told to sit she will eventually sit, this is a work in progress.

She loves her walks and muddy puddles, but she’s not a swimmer. She loves to hide in the long grass and comes running out when you say where’s Maisy, she’s full of energy, and has her nose to the ground when out walking.

She likes to carry a ball around in the house and will bring it back to you if you throw it for her. She can be wary of new things eg lawn mower, hoover, even the mop & bucket. But she is getting used to lots of new things and once she has seen them is usually ok.

She is happy to be dried after a walk although she thinks this is a game, she will let you brush her but again this is also a game to her.

Energy Requirements:  Being a young dog Maisy will do long walks. She would possibly enjoy agility or man trailing.

Training:  Maisy walks well on the lead, and her recall is good. Maisy has many commands, she will sit, stay, leave. When out walking to get her to come back to you it is ‘here’ and she also responds to ‘this way’.

Getting Maisy to leave things she picks up when out for a walk is a work in progress but needs to be kept up as she will eat things she’s not supposed to.

Maisy will pull on a short lead but with a little reminding she will walk to heel but this needs some more practice.

Maisy needs to learn to stay alone in the house, I’ve started to teach her just to stay in another room without me for a few minutes this will need to be worked on so that you can leave her in the house on her own.

Maisy has had some training in scent work.

Visiting the vet: Maisy is micro-chipped and her vaccinations are up to date. She has been spayed. Maisy was very good happy to be at the vets for her routine healthcheck. She had treats to get her to sit still whilst she was being examined. Maisy is fit and well.

Travelling:  Maisy likes to be able to see you when travelling, she will sit on the seat with a seatbelt and harness, she has been travelling in her fosterers car in the boot with a dog guard with other dogs but will now and again whine. If you just speak to her she soon settles.

Food: Maisy is currently fed on Turkey and Rice kibble, and she likes treats. Maisy has breakfast between 8.00/9.00am then has a long walk this may be for up to 2 to 3 hours but not walking all the time. The dogs sniff and play and hunt; we also like to stop and watch the world go by. When we come home Maisy will go to bed and rest, we have a shorter walk in the evening 30min to 1 hour then she gets her tea usually between 5.00/6.00pm Maisy will then settle in her bed she gets treats at bedtime and goes into the garden for toilet break.

Sleep:  She sleeps either in her crate with the door open or her bed during the day so long as you are in the same room as her. At nighttime Maisy sleeps in her own bed beside her fosterer’s bed, she would sleep in a crate but she settles better when she can see you.

Behavioural issues:  Maisy has some Separation Anxiety although she seems better since she came into foster, this will need to be worked on she settles better when other dogs are with her. But she likes you to be where she can see you.

Maisy also has Pica, this is when a dog picks any objects up and eats them, she has been muzzle trained but whilst she has been in foster she has not been muzzled and has not eaten anything she shouldn’t have. You just need to keep a close eye on her, she has been trained to leave things.

Home needs: Maisy needs a quiet rural home, no young children, she would benefit from living with a middle aged dog, for company as she settles better when she’s with her fosterer’s  dogs. She would also be fine  as an only dog so long as there is someone around most of the time.

Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog
