A little bit about Loki – Loki is from working Cocker stock so needs things to do to keep him occupied. He is very clever, and is food driven. He is a very friendly, affectionate dog and will make a great companion for the right owner. Loki can be wary of new situations.
Energy Requirements: Loki has a lot of energy and is very inquisitive, he enjoys regular daily walks, he equally likes to potter in the garden if you are with him. Loki requires encouragement to rest.
Training: Loki pulls a little on the lead at the start and end of his walk when he knows his way home, he uses a harness as he is clever enough to slip his collar. He will happily walk on an extended lead or to heal. His recall is inconsistent and he will require further help to improve this.
Visiting the vet: Loki has had his healthcheck and is fit and well, and up to date with his vaccinations.
Travelling: he can sometimes be reluctant to hop in the boot and requires a little encouragement but once he is in, he travels well in the car, in the boot behind a dog guard.
Food: Loki is currently fed Costco dried food but is not fussy and has enjoyed trying his foster sister's food on occasion and enjoys treat such as sausages and chicken. Dairy products can upset his stomach. Loki eats from a slow feeder.
Sleep: Loki sleeps well at night either happily on the bed with his human or he will sleep in a room alone but will bark at any noise. Loki needs encouragement to rest during the day but will settle if the home is quiet.
Behavioural issues: Loki’s fosterers have been working on his sock stealing and resource guarding and have made a lot of progress working with our behaviourist. He is also working on his manners and he likes to counter surf.
Home needs: Loki will do best in a quiet but active household, with no children. He needs someone with experience of this breed who is willing to continue working on his stealing, guarding, and general training. He would be fine with another friendly dog. A rural or semi-rural location would suit Loki, and a secure garden to play in.
Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog.
