Hi, I’m Bruce! Bruce is very affectionate, however hasn’t quite learned the boundaries, so is often invading personal space, he is working on it. He really loves people. He is a smart boy and responds well to instructions. He has some little quirks. He is sheepish when he sees other dogs when out. By himself will come to heel and continue walking. He does like other dogs, just in his own time. When walking in a park or woodland setting he is perfect. He does not pull on lead and will take instructions. In suburban areas near houses he stops and refuses to walk. We are working on this and has improved greatly.
Energy Requirements: He has responded well to long walks. Foster carers are active and taken on many 5k walks in park and woodland setting and he loves it. He loves a muddy puddle and a shower afterwards. At home he is happy to chill after walks.
Training: Bruce walks well on the lead and has good recall. Bruce is a quick learner and responds well to commands. Recall is good on short lead and in a secure field setting. However, it has not been tested on a woodland walk. He likes birds and often looks like he would chase if given the chance. He appears to really like the water and has been in with lead attached.
Visiting the vet: Bruce has had his vaccinations brought up to date. He is microchipped. At the vets he was initially timid, however came around and allowed the Vet to check him. He was held tight and cuddled while getting vaccinated and did really well.
Travelling: He travels very well in car, currently he travels in back seat with seat belt harness and actively looks to go into car.
Food: Bruce is currently eating Skinners Field and Trial food. No problems at all with food. He eats twice a day. Small breakfast and larger portion at dinner.
Sleep: Bruce sleeps in the family room downstairs with his canine foster sister. He prefers sleeping on the couch to his bed.
Behavioural issues: Bruce can be a cautious dog in some situations. He is slightly sheepish around new people and dogs but he does come around quickly. In foster home he has another dog for company, this has helped with slight separation anxiety. No issues when leaving him alone for short periods in the home. Security cameras show he sleeps on couch when foster carers are not in. On walks he will be cautious around other dogs and will immediately walk to heel or behind. Foster carers continue walking and he also continues.
Home needs: Bruce could be rehomed with another friendly dog or dogs, preferably of a similar age. He might also be fine on his own as long as he had human company most of the time. He will need someone committed to continuing to work on his confidence. He would be best in a quiet environment, definitely not a busy urban location. A secure garden for pottering in would be ideal, and good walking opportunities. He would be fine with older children 12 years +. He may need more than one visit before his new owners take him home.
Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog.
