Hi, I’m Finn! I’m a very handsome Show Cocker. I’ve not had a great start in life but I’m looking forward to finding my forever home. I can be wary of strangers at first but soon warm up to adult visitors. I love a fuss and I will make a great companion once I’m settled. I am a typical happy, fun-loving spaniel; cuddly, clingy and a little bit crazy!
Energy Requirements: Finn loves his walks, he especially loves swimming. He can be a bit overwhelmed if strange dogs charge up to him.
Training: Finn has basic commands; he responds well if there is a treat involved. His lead walking is excellent, he pulls a little when he sees he’s back home but other than that is great.
Visiting the vet: Finn has had his SRS health-check and is fit and healthy. He is slightly overweight but is in very good condition. His vaccinations are up to date.
Travelling: Finn travels well in the car; in the boot behind a dog guard
Food: Finn eats well, currently on Ava Medium Breed dry kibble, and homemade doggy stew or tinned wet food twice a day.
Sleep: Finn sleeps well on his bed next to his fosterer’s bed but he will chance his paw and give you the spaniel eyes to get up for a cuddle, then ends up staying the night.
Behavioural issues: Finn is not aggressive but can be a bit distressed if some dogs approach too close and he will give a warning snap, although he doesn’t initiate any aggressive behaviours. He is fine with most dogs. Finn steals stones from the garden which are not good for his teeth, and he will need to be kept an eye on for this. He has some degree of separation anxiety, but he has been fine left for increasing periods for over an hour with no issues (he has 2 other spaniels for company at the moment).
Home needs: Finn is nervous around very young children so his ideal home would be active but calm and quiet with no very young children visiting or in the home. Older dog-savvy teenagers would be fine. Someone around most of the time would be good, as he has slight separation anxiety and will need patience and understanding while settling in to his new home. A garden to play in would be good, and frequent access to interesting doggy walks. He is currently living with 2 other spaniels, and they eat, sleep and walk together. He is not interested in the family cat.
Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog.
