Being a Foster Person

Thank you for considering becoming a foster person and part of Springer Rescue for Scotland’s volunteer team. We deeply value the dedication and fresh ideas that new volunteers bring to our mission of helping Springer Spaniels in Scotland.

This is what you can expect when you choose to foster with us.

These are some of the activities you can expect to undertake when you become a foster person with us:

Further assessment of the dog in a family home.

  • Identifying which type of home will be suitable for the dog, i.e. quiet, rural, single dog, needs a companion, etc.

  • If necessary, working on the dogs behaviour management plan provided by our behaviourist.

  • Starting or continuing basic training and teaching what is & is not acceptable behaviour.

  • Keeping the foster coordinator up to date with the dog's progress either via email or on a closed Facebook page.

  • Ensuring the dog is well cared for and is always walked on a lead/long line.

  • Arranging veterinary treatments (neutering, vaccinations, etc) if required. Must be approved by the committee first.

  • Completing a website bio for the dog and facilitating visits with the adopting family.

There is ALWAYS someone available to ask questions if you’re not sure of what to do. We have an excellent behaviourist available for telephone consultation and if needed home visits. If there are behavioural issues that you feel you have experience in, similarly if there are behaviours you feel like you aren’t able to manage, we can discuss this further.
