A little bit about Archie …. Archie’s fosterer has fostered many SRS dogs and says that Archie has been one of the very best dogs to take care of, he is an absolute delight! He is very affectionate, loves human contact and just wants to be with you. He is friendly towards everyone he meets and just thrives on attention.

Energy Requirements:

When Archie first came into foster he wasn’t very keen on walks. Now he loves his walks and is happy to go. He doesn’t stray far from his fosterer. His recall is good unless he’s distracted in which case he has selective hearing. He loves a good sniff on walks but will avoid water. He doesn’t like getting his feet wet and will walk round puddles rather than go through them. He has seen cattle and horses and has ignored them. He hasn’t seen sheep but would be best kept on a lead near livestock. Archie has been walked with another dog and they get on well together.

Archie knows basic commands. He walks reasonably well on the lead, and he gets about 7/10 for recall.

Visiting the vet:  Archie was very happy visiting the vet for his health check and behaved impeccably while being examined. He may have a pollen allergy and has had eye drops to help with this. He is fully vaccinated.

Archie travels well in the car, in the back with a dog guard or on the back seat with a harness clipped on.

Archie is a bit overweight and has been on a diet. He is losing the weight slowly as his exercise has increased. He is fed morning and evening and likes a Bonio for lunch. Other than that he gets very few treats during the day, apart from a couple of gravy bones at bedtime.

Archie sleeps in his own bed in the bedroom. He also has a bed in the kitchen and one in the living room. Archie has never been allowed on the furniture. Archie has a stuffed Highland cow which is his prized possession, and he likes to carry it around with him. He is not really interested in any other toys.

Behavioural issues:  Archie is a very lovely dog; he has no behavioural issues.

Home needs:

Archie would like a quiet but reasonably active home, with his humans around most of the time. He loves interesting walks in safe places, and loves a garden to potter in. He is probably best as the only dog so he gets all the attention. He would be fine with older children. No cats, as he will chase.

Ongoing support:

Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog.

Please Do NOT express interest in Archie if you are going on holiday in the next 4-6 weeks.
